Guild Marine is the only Alexseal distributor in Michigan and the Great Lakes region — one of roughly two dozen in the entire United States. We keep the line at our shop in Port Huron, ship it around the country, and spray it ourselves. That last part matters: when you call with a question about induction time or which reducer to run at 78°F, you are talking to people who had a gun in their hands that week.

The Alexseal system, in the order you use it

Alexseal is a coatings system, not a shelf of unrelated cans. Each layer is formulated to go over the one beneath it, and skipping a step is where most refinish jobs go wrong. Here is how the line stacks up:

• Fairing and filling — Fine Filler 303, Fairing Compound 202 and Spray Fair 328 for shaping and fairing hulls, decks and superstructure before any primer goes on.
• Primers — Super Build 302, the high-build epoxy primer you sand fair; Finish Primer 442 for the final sandable coat under topcoat; Protective Primer 161 and Cor Spec Primer 135 as barrier coats over properly prepared metal; Fast Spot Finish Primer 414 for repairs.
• Sealer — Premium Polymer Sealer, laid down between primer and topcoat so the finish coat lays out uniformly instead of chasing sand scratches and porosity.
• Topcoats — Premium Topcoat 501, the two-part polyurethane the system is built around, in whites, grays and blacks, blues, greens, reds and yellows, tans and browns, metallics and clear gloss; plus Metallic Topcoat M-Series.
• Non-skid, converters, reducers and additives — the non-skid additive for decks, brush and spray converters, accelerators, flattening additive, blending solvent, and reducers matched to your shop temperature and application method. Running the wrong reducer for the conditions is the single most common cause of a finish that never quite lays down.
• Surface prep — wipe down solvent, surface degreaser and dewaxer, and premium wash down concentrate.

Colors, quantities and tech questions

Alexseal's standard color range covers most of what comes through a yard, and custom matches are available. If you are not sure how much material a hull your size will take, or which primer belongs over your substrate, call us at (586) 960-5829 before you order. We would rather spend ten minutes on the phone than have you short a gallon halfway through a topcoat.
